Arrow Spine & Drop Away Rests
I've read several comments in the past that stated that drop away rests are forgiving of 'incorrect' arrow spine. Has any one of you 'super tuners' played around with this to see if this is really true? The reason I ask is that I'm thinking of going from a 70lb. bow to a 60lb. bow. I have a bunch of ICSH 340's that I know will be somewhat overspined if I go to a 60lb. bow. However, the ICSHs that I have shoot good for me and I really like the finished weight they wind up at (425 grains with a 100 gr point). I really wouldn't want to use a hunting arrow much lighter than that. I currently use a MZE rest and a release.

Someone much more capable will probably be along shortly to offer up some educational wisdom for ya Olink. But something I've gathered is when your talking about incorrect spine, overspined would be preferred to being underspined. I've even read that some guys shoot for a stiffer spine then recommended from the get-go. I think it probably gives you the upper hand in reguards to archers paradox.
I'll probably drop back from 70 to 60 also when I get my target setup figured out.

What Mark said is good advice. I will be giving a seminar at the AMO Show this weekend and will be discussing things like this to other Dealers.
One of the things I did was to shoot as many different arrows through my bow which has a MZE rest. The aluminum range ran from 1816 to 2413 and the carbon range ran from CX200 to CX400. I also threw in a few ACC 3-71's and my hunting arrows - Beman Hunter 330's.
Every one of them got a bullet hole at 3 yards without any adjustments for arrow diameter. Now the question is "what will happen with fixed broadheads"? I can't answer that right now but I would have to agree in principal to Mark's theory.
If I ever get the time, I'll do the test for you with fixed broadheads.

Thanks for the reply guys. Len, I'd really be interested in hearing your results if you ever do some tests with fixed blades. I'm curious about one thing though Len. You said your hunting arrows are Beman Hunter 330s. Aren't those just about the stiffest arrows on the planet? Did you shoot them with fixed heads? According to Beman's chart (for what its worth) you would need to be shooting a 30" arrow at over 70 lbs before this arrow would be in the correct spine range.

My Beman Hunter 330-16's are about 30 1/2" long with 125 grain tips/BHs (~465 grains) and I shoot 72# getting 270 fps. They're just right at about 75 ft/lb of KE. If fact, the other day a customer was joking about how bad my fletchings looked from "stacking" arrows. I proceeded to take the fletchings off 2 arrows and they still grouped with the others at 20 yards.
I guess I've got my bow/arrow system well tuned. <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

Wow Len, I guess penetration isn't an issue with your setup, especially with those skinny carbons! I obviously had you confused with somebody else, because I thought you were only shooting a 60# Maverick.
