Default BOWTECH AND HOYT EXPERTS, I NEED YOUR HELP BAD!!!!

Hey guys,

I am need of some help. My best friend and I went looking at bows today. We were just doing it for some fun, just to see what all new is out there. I was thinking about buying a 2003 Hoyt DynaTec a couple weeks ago, but decided against it.
Well, today we put 245 miles on his car going around to different archery shops. I had already shot the 2003 RazorTec and didn't particularly care for the grip, that was my only complaint. Well, after holding it today, I grew to loving the grip. It took a little getting use to but, I found it to be incredibly comfortable. My best friend drew back the first 2003 Hoyt he has ever drew back today and was amazed by the cam and a half system. He has decided that he wants a new bow (he currently shoots a 2001 Browning Tornado) and I have decided to upgrade to a better bow (I currently shoot a 2002 Hoyt MT Sport). Well, out of all the bows we looked at, two bows stuck out to us. The......

2003 Hoyt RazorTec
2003 BowTech Mighty Mite

Now, we did a comparison chart on these two bows, and, together we gave them ratings on 1-5 in 16 different categories and, both bows got a rating of 72.5 out of 80. The RazorTec had a better cam system, smoother draw, better looks, and better grip comfort. The Mighty Mite had a shorter a.t.a. length, was faster, has better manuverability, better price, and better strings. The thing is, we can't decide on one or the other. We are more than likely going to purchase the same bow. These bows both fit us perfectly. I mean, it is getting to a point where there is no preference. We just can't decide.

Now, I was wondering if you Mighty Mite owners/shooters could tell me what you really love about the bow, and any downsides (if any). Same thing with RazorTec owners/shooters.

Thanks guys, I really wanna see what other shooters think.

P.S. On a side note, we stopped at Full Draw archery shop here in Pennsylvania. It was RIDICULOUS! They are an Alpine dealer. I heard nothing but bad from these guys about every bow besides Alpines. For instance...... "Hoyt only sells bows because so many people wear Hoyt t-shirts" "Mathews only sells bows because of their "book advertisements" "The BowTech Patriot has the most hand shock of any bow, you have to wear a wrist sling or the bow will literally jump out of your hand" "Hoyt is just a copy cat of Darton" ect.. The list goes on and on. These guys wouldn't let me get a word in, literally, I tried talking and the two guys there just kept cutting me off, so, if there are any archers in Southwestern Pennsylvania, don't even bother paying this shop attention, it is located in Saltsburg, and like I said, it is a joke.

BM, I know the shop you are talking about. In fact, I know the owner very well, and am disappointed to hear that he would talk down about other bow companys.(especially hoyt and bowtech) That is not good business to do so, even with less reputable brands.

I think you already know which one I shoot, but it is a personal preference only. Both are fantastic bows.

It comes down to which one you like the best.

Out of curiousity, why do you feel that the mighty mite has better strings?

Hey BC,

Yes, the shop was a disappointment. My friend and I went there first, and, were stunned. They discussed how all companies have "gimicks" and Alpine is the only company that doesn't. They were really pushing the new Stealth and Ravage. They were describing the Mathews "Harmonic Crap", and, said that the Alpines had the best dampening system. We left there just, well, kinda irratated.

After that we went to Ultimate Outdoors or Ultimate Archery (something like that), down on the Golden Mile. The guys there seemed to be great. We were in there for about an hour. My friend and I spent about 15 minutes looking at the RazorTec, then, for about 45 minutes we were talking with one of the guys about arrows, bow tuning, and Rocky Mountain Snypers.

As far as the string, I know the Hoyts Brownell string is great, but, from what I have heard, the Archers Choice string on the BowTechs is better.

Also, on a side note. We checked out the 2002 Browning Eclipse and Mirage 33. TERRIBLE bows, in my opinion. I don't know. I love my friends Tornado, it is smooth and fast, good brace heigh, but just a little long for me (36" a.t.a). The 2002 Eclipse was on sale for something like 250.00 which amazed me because they are normally around 600.00. Well, the draw was not smooth at all, it was like there was another "gritty" resistance on the bow. It felt bad, and, it looked like it was shodly made. When I drew it back, the bow actually creaked. I just heard a creak, and, thta got me thinking.

Also, on another side note, when we went to the BowTech dealer, I was looking at the Patriot and told the guy there about what the man from Full Draw said, about the Patriot having so much kick that it would jump out of your hand. Well, the guy at the BowTech shop laughed and said "I am not gonna resort to childish name calling, I am gonna one up that guy, come back tommorow night, and, I will have our "head BowTech guy" who went to a PSE shooting school here, with his Patriot and you can shoot it, then you can decide" Since I work tommorow, I won't be able to make it down, but, I am going down on Monday to test out the Patriot.

So, my friend and I have came up with a short list of dealers that we feel stand above all the rest for SouthWestern Pennsylvania....

Unlimited Archery or Unlimited Outdoors (can't remember the name)

Four Seasons Sport Shop

Outdoor Pro Shop (in Homer City Pennsylvania)

These three seem to be the best places we could find.

BM, I know the boys at Ultimate Outdoors very well, and they are very knowledgable!

You were getting dangerously close to my house!

I can point you to a couple more "good" shops in the area if you are interested.

BM,

Well, it would seem that there is more than one Four Seasons Sporting Shop in PA unless you were at the one in Jim Thorpe...? If you were then you are heading into my neck of the woods and I would invite you down to the local shop to try a few of the bows in question out further. Somehow, considering the part of the state where you live, I don't think you were over my way...<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

My thoughts on the Razortec are over in the Equipment Review forum. If you haven't had a chance to read them then go take a look. I should have the Patriot DC review done by tomorrow or Monday at the latest.

...and if you are interested in a Razortec then drop me a line....<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

Buck Magnet, buy them both because you can always pedal the one you don't like on E-Bay<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle> Then you will know for sure that you have the right bow! I bought a brand new lathe mill drill combo machine off E-Bay today and saved $200.00. The good thing was that it was only 30 miles from my place. Good luck with your new bow!

BM.
Sorry to hear about your dilema with some of the shops I have been there and done that.

As to which bow only you can decide that.
Stop and think of what you want the bow to do ie spot n stalk, tree stand or ground blind and if you shoot 3d as well.

then work out which bow is going to work in your circumstances.

Good luck with what ever one you decide on

Buy 'em both man.<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> I'm telling you! I was looking at the same two bows, Mighty Mite and Razortec. Went with the MM and like it a lot, Screamin' fast and silent. But I want a Razortec too! Every time I'm in the shop I shoot it again. I don't think I'd trade my MM for it yet...but I want 'em both! <img src=icon_smile_cool.gif border=0 align=middle>
Damn you, Frank and your Ebay temptations!LOL
I just got over kickin' myself for not bidding higher on the last one you sold!
And as long as I'm dreamin' I'll be takin' Rae Dawn Chong as wife #2(I don't know what it is about her<img src=icon_smile_tongue.gif border=0 align=middle>) and Heather Graham as wife #3....<img src=icon_smile_clown.gif border=0 align=middle>

Hey BC,

The guys at Ultimate Outdoors were great. Its a very nice shop there, some of those mounts on the wall.... whew, those are nice. We talked to the one guy there, and my best friend told him about his paper tuning problems. He cannot get a perfect &quot;bullet hole&quot;. He can get to a 1/4&quot; tear, but can't do any better. That is when the guy started telling us about the Rocky Mountain Snyper. He said that he wasn't out to sell us anything, and, he was honest about that, he just told us all about the tests they did on the Snyper there.

I am not sure when we are going to be down there next, but, I will let you know before hand, maybe we could meet up with you there. O yeah, you should have seen us two idiots trying to find these places. From Indiana, we headed out 286 towards Full Draw, we passed the place because there was that new Dollar General blocking its sign, well, we go out the road and come to the split of 380 and 286. We went a good ways down 380 and turned around, came back, and went the other split out 286 a good ways, after that we turn around and start heading back to Indiana, thats when we found Full Draw. Well, after that we came back to Indiana to get some food. Well, my friend thought that Ultimate Outdoors was on 22, so, we headed down 119 and go onto 22. We went clear past the Monroeville Mall, and finally got mad and turned around. On the way back up, we saw the Golden Mile, so, we decided to come back that way, well, we followed that a good ways and found Ultimate Outdoors there. So, we leave there and stay on that road to come home. As we go furter and further, everything looks familiar. At that time I realize that we are now on 380. We turned around on 380 about 10 miles before Ultimate Outdoors. Talk about a HUGE waste of time and gas. hahaha.

Frank, I guess there are some different Four Seasons Sport Shops around. The one I am talking about is in Clymer, PA. Clymer is a small town boardering Indiana. I also read the review on the RazorTec, good review.

I am going to talk to the guy at Four Seasons today to see what his price for a RazorTec would be. Ultimate Outdoors was selling it for 614.99. Four Seasons was selling the SuperTec for 609.95, so, I am hoping to get a better deal there.

I don't have any experience with either of these bows but my son-in -law had a Mighty Mite just for short time. The only positive thing was it was fast. This bow was noisy and also had a lot of hand shock. Don't know if all this was due to the short ATA or what. But he would shoot my Mathews FX and he said it was no comparison to smoothness and quietness. He sold the Mighty and didn't get a Mathews, found a pearson Soiler that he liked and is very happy now and shoots better also.
