The Shadow was discontinued by Merlin in 2000. There are a few Shadows, Tempests, and older Storm models still available at certain discounters and distributors until the stock runs out. The Shadow is a very forgiving bow, has a decent brace height and would make a nice little hunting bow. It does not have as many attributes as the higher-end models, but is still built with Merlin pride. I've seen the prices out there for them,(I may still even be able to get them myself if I dig around enough) and feel you will be getting a very good buy for the money. Good luck! PW12

bwrong, I just bought a Shadow solo cam. There are some things about it I don't much care for but, nothing that affects the way it shoots. I have shot mine a quite a bit lately and I have taken a liking to it.
I usually shoot with sights and a release but I haven't used them on this bow much.
It shoots damn good for being a low end model.
Hell, I've shot a few of the big name high dollar bows that don't shoot as accurately or as comfortably. I did notice a little hand shock but after adding limb savers, and a hydraulic stab. it is quite nice.
I think personally I would of rather had it in a dual cam configuration.
I do know this after shooting mine I am more likely to be purchasing another Merlin by summer.

Pinwheel, is there a wood grip available for this thing, or do I gotta carve my own?

Bear master, if you can't get a grip for the Shadow, which I would think you should have no problems with, Loesch enterprises makes great grips, custom to specification's colour's you name it. I put one on my Quest, not the merlin quest, but the grip is better looking then the bow, ahahaha. Anyways good luck with the grip.
I should have enough money to buy the Apex riser with in a week or so, yeeehaaaa.
good shooting
Dylan

Bearmaster-

Don't feel bad, I don't much care for those plastic grips, either! <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle> I'm checking to see if any of the other grips might fit, maybe a Hunter's Quest grip will with a little modification, I'm waiting for a return e-mail to get the full scoop, seeing as I don't have a Shadow around currently to compare the two. I'll let you know as soon as I hear back from them. Good shooting, PW12

Yeah, the plastic grips left a lot to be desired. I took them off and used tennis grip wrap arounf the riser and really liked the feel of that when I had a Shadow. The Loesch grips are definitely top notch, but they are pricy.

All-

There are currently no factory wood grips that will fit the discontinued Shadow models, you will have to try and find an aftermarket grip or whittle your own.(this straight from the factory today)

I had the opportunity to purchase a large quantity of these discontinued Shadow, Storm, and Tempest models at ridiculous pricing also but passed it up due to return/repair issues should customers ever need repair in the future, and the fact that they have been discontinued since early 2000. One must be aware that altho you will get a great buy initially, they are virtually a &quot;throw-away&quot; bow if certain things go wrong. Being &quot;discontinued&quot;, this means that parts made specifically for these bows will soon be very scarce if not impossible to find should you need them. Of course, the flip-side is that they are much cheaper in cost than any of the newer Merlin models that have many more attributes, so basically it boils down to what you are looking for in a bow.(you get what you pay for, in other words)They are definately good bows for the money.Bwrong, I wish your friend good luck in his endeavor! Merlin themselves will from now on only be building top of the line equipment, and not offer any more &quot;lower-end&quot; equipment in the future to my knowledge. This decision came about after realizing that if they want the best return/repair percentages and people raving about the quality in their products, they must build the finest equipment on the planet, bar none. That is what they are now striving for, and doing a tremendous job,IMHO. After these particular discontinued 2000 models are gone from distributors' and wholesales' stock, you will not be able to get Merlin products from any distributor or wholesaler, but ONLY from recognized factory-authorized Merlin dealers.

Look for the new &quot;Supernova&quot; which supposedly will debut at the World Archery Festival in Vegas. I expect updated specs and pics very soon, and will keep everyone posted. Good shooting, PW12
