I would talk with your doctor 1st to make sure that you don’t hurt anything worst than it is.
40 Lbs would be enough to kill deer at 20 yards. You have to watch your shot placement. And yes I would use a cut on impact head. I would also use heavy arrows.

RE: PLEASE HELP ME OUT ???
I dont know what it is for limits in your area, but i agree with the previous posters. in the case of minimum poundage, check your state limits, around here its 40, and that will easilly drop a dear from 20 yards with the right shot placement. But if your state regulation is too much for you, i would suggest crossbow.
and, if worse comes to worse: try muzzleloader or shotgun. i personaly prefer bow, but from what ive heard, its easier kill, with much less strain on your body. depending on how long youve shot bow, it can cause major wear and tear, far, far less than that of a gun.
hope ive helped ya, and good luck with ur unfortunate situation

RE: PLEASE HELP ME OUT ???
for a 30-40 bow, i recommend Browning. Thats what i use, and its bumped up over the limit. the reason i shoot a low poundage bow is because i tire easilly, and it can still kill a dear at 20-30 yards.
I also reccomend you check your state regulations. I say this only becuase its 40 here in RHode Island, the limit might be different where you are.

RE: PLEASE HELP ME OUT ???
First of all take care of the shoulder and wrist. I had 2 right shoulder dislocations and had 2 surgeries and over 2 years of rehalb. They basically cut my arm off and sewed it back on with all the tendons and muscles about 1 inch shorter than natural. I'm left handed, can't do a push up, can't arm wrestle, loosing an arm wrestling match would rip my arm off but I can now anchor a 70 lbs draw bow. Not all 70 lbs draw bows though.
Not all bows are created equal. I just drew back a right handed PSE X Force that I was told was set at 80 lbs- it felt like 60. I have A Parker Hornet set at 70 lbs, it feels like my Hoyt Xtech at 60 lbs. With up to 80 % let off and with some of the new cams out, try a few and you might be surprised at to what you can draw with the right bow for you.
Another option is a contraption I saw on TV awhile back. Not sure the name but it holds your bow at full draw, you aim and pull the trigger, cock it simular to a crossbow. They were showing a little boy handling a 70 lbs draw bow with no problems.
Your bow price I can't help you with. If it's more than 2-3 years old, most likely not worth much as trade in. Wish I could remember the name of that contraption but if my shoulder goes out again, I'll be finding it, looked like a better alturnative to a crossbow, being it will work on your bow that you are used to. Good luck.

RE: PLEASE HELP ME OUT ???
You will probably need to get away from aggressive cams that most bows have today.
Hoyt has other options, the wheel and a half will make it MUCH easier to draw because of the long breakover. They do not stack up nearly as quick and hard as most cams do.
Also, you might try and find a Parker Easy Draw.
There are many bows that are easier to draw, you will need to do some homework because they are not the latest fad and are harder to find.
I would say that you could get a model like I suggested in a 40-50 range and find a comfortable setting, shoot a cut on contact with some good foc and weight with feathers and be good to 30 yards.
