Default Let the Games Begin!

This time of year I am always interested in the marketing strategies of the archery gurus and the boldness of some to enter a market that has limited customer numbers to begin with and competition to say the very least that is quite intense.

In my humble opinion it would take a lot of savy to launch a new bow company in a recession but it seems like every year someone makes an attempt. The most recent one to catch my attention is a company called Archery Research (AR). It looks like a cross between a Mathews, PSE, Bow Tech, and High Country. I see parts of all those companies designs in this bow. When it is finally released we will have to see how it shoots and competes with the rest of the field.

In the "business end of the arrow" department, a company called 'Spintite' is in the process of unveiling a broadhead called the "Crimson Talon". According to them they have re-invented the wheel with something called "Airfoil Technology"..."Holy razor blades Batman, what in blue blazes is that???"...

"Cam&1/2", "unparalleled parallel limb technology", "Counter rotating idler wheels", "Extreme VFT"...Wow, a virtual techie's play ground!! Looks like it will be up to us to separate the "actual & factual" from the "exaggeration & hype"! I can't wait to get started...

Yep, I love all the new stuff coming out this time of year! It seems maybe one or two products are great and the rest fall to the side. The first thing to catch my eye this year was Alpines new "hybrid half wisker bisquit rest", I think it will be one of the first to fall, lol. At least they try.

Hawgz,

A division of PSE? No kidding! Thanks for the insight I obviously wasn't aware of that!

5 shot,

It would appear that for those of us who want to cut a few pounds are only going to be getting half a bisquit now...without the jelly.

That "AR" advertisement is a joke right?

If not then why would you advertise "Large Profit margins"?

That is basically like stating..."We are going to suck that wallet of yours dry if you buy our bow"....

Ausie-guy,

Thanks for the "visual aid". It is hard to tell intricate detail from a photo that is only two dimensional but I will attempt to explain my original commentary.

1. The short "swept back" limbs, "parallel limbs" or "VFT limbs" if you will, remind me of Mathews/BowTech.

2. The cam in my humble opinion looks very much like a Mathews.

3. This may be a stretch for some but the long narrow throat of the grip reminds me of High Country's line with a little Hoytian thrown in there for good measure. Of course it could look all together different when presented in real life three dimensional.

4. The beefiness at the end of the riser, the dog-leg cable guard, and the idler wheel cry out "PSE" to me.

Pa,

Very funny, I love your sense of humor. I'm guessing their feeling was only dealers would be seeing this ad.

This was taken out of an archery trade magazine. It's ment to be seen by Archery shops. That why it says large profit margins. I have a relative who owns a shop. Everyone thinks he make big money on bows but he doesn't make much profit. Just enough to keep the doors open and make a salery. The guy doen't live high on the hog.
I hate to read thing about profit on the forums. People don't understand what it takes to stay in business. Think about what you make at your work. You dont' have to pay 2 light bills 2 phone bills ect.> Your employer pays all that to keep thier doors open. Think about it next time you go to any store and ask if they can come off the price any. It's the same as your employer saying he "JOE", "Bob" says he'll do your job for $10.00 an hour instead of the $15.00 I'm paying you. Do you ask Wal-mart to come off thier price when you go to the check out counter? If any one could come of thier price it would be Wal-mart they posted a $200 million dollar profit last year! Just a liitle something to think about.

1. Call me silly but I think it looks somewhat "Browning-ish"...the camo and grip at least...

As for my earlier comment and the subsequent replies....
Geeeeshh, relax a little. I wasn't complaining about paying for bows. I was simply stating that it was rather stupid for a manufacturer to post that in an advertisement meant for the public. Since it was, obviously, not meant for the public the point is somewhat moot...
