drop in 60- 70# bow
hey all, I was wondering on average can anyone tell me if what the differance of the drop in an arrow shot in a bow from 20- 35 yards in a 60# setting verses a 70# setting? example if its a 4 " drop shooting at 60#s, how much less would the frop be at 70#s ? I was considering upgrading to a 70 # draw from a 60# but the guy at the bow shop could only say yes it will shoot faster at 70#s!! I know that!, I just wanna know how much less of a drop it will be thats all.
The Reason being is that my goal is to find a way toshoot with a single pin sighted at 20-25 yards but only have at best a 1" to 1 1/2" drop at 35 yard shot. if that projection is even posible with a compound bow, or is it only posible with a cross bow ? Thanks for any and all info John

This can be easily figured out if you know the exact speed. All arrows drop at the same rate - only the time in air determines the drop. You're probably looking at about 1 1/2" on the average setup in your senerio.

I just went the opposite way. I had the limbs replaced on my bow. I had 70# limbs with a 65# DW. I changed to 60# limbs bottomed out at 62#s. Through a chrono I lost 2fps and a the bow is a LOT quieter. I really thought it was quiet before, now, wow! It is a bit easier to draw although it has never been a problem, and 62#s will kill anything on the continent.

The 70 lb limbs require a stronger and heavier arrow so the actual diffference in speed won't be enormous. What you mostly lose is impact energy by dropping down. But don't forget that every year people kill Elk & Moose with recurve bows so a 60 lb bow will kill anything on this continent anyways.

RE: drop in 60- 70# bow
Many compounds today equal or exceed the performance of a crossbow. With that said.
If you sight in at 25 yds you will be a little high at 20 and a little low at 30.
The speeds will not be the same between the 2 bows unless the arrow is much heavier. I have 391 gr CX 3D Selects 300that I shoot at 62# that chrono'd at 284. I have 421 gr GT 7595's for 70# that chrono'd at 293 fps. I could go with 100 gr tips on the GT's and be around 300 fps and spined well. So, at approximately the same weight arrow I'd be over 15 fps faster.

RE: drop in 60- 70# bow
Due to some shoulder issues in the past (not shooting related) I only pull between 52-55 lbs. It's real easy to pull but I don't want to risk injury again.
Last night I measured my drop from 20-30 yards and it was about 6 inches. I'd like to use one pin but i'm not sure it would work for me.

Thanks Red,
So it would be just like holding over with a gun. If I thought I was a 30 just hold 6" high right?
What I was hoping for was similar to how I set up my gun with one crosshair. 3" high at close range, 3" low at max distance, just hold on the deer in the middle of the kill zone and call it good.
Kinda wanted that with the bow hoping that i could be like 3" high at 10 but then 3" low at 40 and then just hold dead on with the pin. This way the distance wouldn't be as important as long as it was between 10 and 40.
Sorry for some of the ignorance about bow shooting as this might not be how anyone thinks while bowhunting. For now i'm going with the 3 pins and make sure of my distances but the 1 pin idea as i described above is intriguing

RE: drop in 60- 70# bow
Hey All Thank you very much for the input, I appriciate it a lot, well I decided to set my draw to 70# and what a differance it made from 55#.
It made a dramaticdifferanceNot to mention I finally Shot MY First Robin Hood so to speak, it was a perfect Split one on top of the other, I have been working on that one for a few years now, not only that but It was a 30yd shot to boot. I try to practice as muchas posible,I shoot a minimun of 3X a week So I practice as much as I can So I hopefully do not have any misses in the field. anyway I am So Stoaked I split my arrows! on top of one another, call it dumb luck or just serious consistant detrermination to achive a goal I have been tryna do fro sometime now, but anyway I am going to keep shooting at 70# I think because even at 65 it was OK but 70 just seemed to be the magic number for me and what I am looking to achive with my bow. Thanks again everyone you all were a big Help
