Bohning cresting paint?

RE: Bohning cresting paint?
arrows42071 - those crests are gorgeous. You do excellent work. That's a labor of love, I tell ya.
Hey, do you use a dipping tube to get the white on, or do you airbrush it, or do you hand paint the white onto the shaft?
I dipped mine, and the white came out a little spotty on some of the shafts. It just wouldn't dry right, I think it was the humidity. No biggie, I'm not taking them to a fashion show or anything, just wondered what I could've done wrong.

I do use a dip tube. Some shafts are like that. They just want to be spotty no matter what you do to them. My usual routine is to scuff the shaft where the crown dip will be with a 3M scotchbrite pad, then a quick wipe with acetone on a paper towel. All of my shafts get dipped twice(also recommended by Bohning). Sometimes you'll find that the paint looks lumpy shortly after the shafts are dipped. This normally goes away after all the solvents have evaporated off. Then again, sometimes you'll likely find me with a 400 grit sandpaper on the shafts trying to get the paint just right.
