G5 arrow squaring device
I'm going to buy one of these things this year. It says ithas a side for carbon and one for aluminum. What do I do with my FMJ's? Use the aluminum or carbon side?

This is THE BEST tool you will own!!
Try both sides and see which gives the best result.
Also, square up your inserts!! To do this, color the entire surface of the insert with a black marker (this is to see any high/low spots). Then, shave a bit off and check your insert. Once all of the black is gone you're done! BTW, make sure your inserts are installed in a squared shaft before before you try to square them. I know, it's a no brainer...but you never know! lol
Once you're all done, you will notice that your groups are tighter! ALWAYS A PLUS!!

I use a lathe to cut my shafts and to square up the inserts. I'm assuming the G5 device will work as well. Had a particular shaft that always shot broadheads about 2" to the right at 25 yards (I number my shafts) and, after squaring up the insert, it started shooting with the other shafts. It's worth the effort, IMO.

I see, but what would the purpose be for squaring the end of the HIT inserts, other than shaving off the thousandth of a grain? The point or broadhead doesn't contact the end of the insert.

I would try the carbon side first. The aluminum side could split the carbon inside the shaft. Also, the little tool that comes with the FMJ's is a little abrasive wheel, isn't it
Thanks for all the replies.
