Default Feathers and mech.heads ?

Question,,,Would useing a head like, say a Spitfire, be OK with a hard helical feather fletch. That arrow will be spinning pretty fast when it hits, so I'm not sure what that would do to blades, as far as the way they open up.Anyone have any thoughts, or experiences with this sort of set up ?.

A mech head should be fine set up like that. The very small surface area of the blades makes them well suited for high RPM entrance.
Some heads (Rocket for instance) have the blades off-set and are INTENDED to spin on impact.

Stealth_Force is right. The term for the arrow spinning in flight is "OSCILLATION", wait is that a buzz word? sorry poor attempt at an inside joke if anyone is following a certain thread. I am pretty sure that that was one of rockets claims/advantages of their broadheads over any other mechanical. You should have success with that set-up. Someone please chime in if I am wrong.

Thanks for the quick responses. This seems like the only message board to be very active right now.I'm sure I'll be posting MANY questions.
I'm not new to the sport, but I know I can still learn alot from others.
Thanks again, and glad to be aboard

Helical feathers and a good quality mechanicals matched to your setup are deadly. Even with a high dergee of helical your arrows still don't rotate all the fast, or that much, not enough to hinder penetration or preformance of a mechanical or fixed blade head for that matter.

drop, I use right helical and 100 grain split fires, they hit hard and true, I killed a doe @ 35 yards on the opener, and a 9 point 5 yards from my tree 20 feet below, both broadheads opened on inpact and both deer went 25 yards, they sound like a 22cal. when they hit flesh, both hits hit flesh and no bone and both heads can be used again after I change blades.

Sounds like a winner to me , a great combination on a windy day ,less likly to plane than a fixed head . That is provided you have enough energy to use mechanical heads .

We all have different oppinions , if we did'nt the world would be a BORING place

no problems at all. I have always found helical feather to shoot very good and provide a high level of accuracy.
