Shot some bows today!
Called a Bowtech dealer and met him at a local indoor range. It was 65 miles for me to get to the local range. Shot the 2002 patriot and the mighty mite. Have never shot a bow shorter than 34" ata that didn't feel like a kids bow until today. The might mite was fast and felt like a much longer bow. It did have a small amount of hand shock but I was shooting with no stablizer. It had no silencers and was as quiet as any bow I have ever shot. Wait a minute, it was quieter than any bow I have shot with silencers. The patroit was fast, quiet and had no shock but I have a little problem with the balance of the bow. The bow was super accurate and stable but after the shot,it felt top heavy. Could put a weight on the bottom to cure this. I left the range and went to a local shop and shot some Mathews bows. The Icon was a very smooth bow and would make a great spot bow. The Q2 was also a good feeling bow but was not overly fast. I am looking for a 60 lb. bow at 27" that will give me about 260-280 fps. The ultra 2 was a fast bow but it has a great deal of recoil. It recoiled so hard one time that the grip seperated from the riser. I have decided for my needs, the mighty mite will do the job. Would anyone know what Stelth stablizer would work best on the mighty mite. Don

The Mighty Mite is very similar in spec to my Diamond Hornet. They both use the same cam. Stick some limbsavers on it, add a stealth stabilizer and say bye bye to the hand shock. I love my hornet, great hunting bow...

DoninVa (fellow runt) welcome home... Wait a minute - you may be a growing kid - forget the runt remark...
I too shoot a 27" draw - and let me tell you - you are going to have to work to get to 280fps. 260 is easily do-able but getting to 280 will be work! I shot a Pro 38 for spots & 3d this season and was able to get it to 280 - I picked up my Patriot before hunting season & have yet to get a 350gr arrow through it but when I do I can let you know what it clocks at (should do that this week)...
My Pat & 38 are both 70# bows however, not 60#. I'm quite certain the 38 is faster than the Patriot & there's no way at 60# my 38 would hit 280.
My Pat at 70#, 27", 444 gr arrow at about 250 fps.
I'll get a 350gr arrow through the Pat this week & let you know what happens but in any event you won't be dissapointed with the Patriot - but I would also encourage waiting a few weeks for the 03s unless you are going to buy the EXACT same 02 and the dealer is going to give you a steeper discount on the 02.
My $0.02

Don, I have a 2002 Mighty Mite, 60#er. The factory paper states 304 fps @ 29" draw. I shoot 365 gr arrow @ 55# & get 265 out of it. At 60# I'd be right there (270-280). You can come close with a lighter arrow. I tried every stab in the shop on mine. I bought a Vibracheck Isolator, 7 1/2". By far, better than any other I tried. It weighs 10 oz. I think Stealth makes an 8" about that weight. I don't think BowTech is changing the MM in 2003. These bows are extremely accurate for a short ATA bow. I shot some 3D last summer, and my scores were in the 270s. At hunting ranges it's more than adequate. The overall weight and balance are just what I like for still hunting, and shooting from odd angles and positions. It also shoots, and handles well, from a treestand. I think you'll be well pleased, and well served by a Mighty Mite. BTW, I sold my Patriot (2003 DC on order), and have a P38 DC. I like shooting the MM. Good luck.
I just had a thought, careful Phil. The 2003 Pat DC wil get the speed you want in a 60# bow. The weight will only be a few more oz, and the balance should be different.
Phil.

DoninVa, did you pick up a catalog while you were there? I would recommend looking at the new Extreme VFT when they come in. It looks like you could pick up about 10 more fps with this bow, weights are almost identical, brace is about 5/8 less and will have less recoil. The price looks like about $50.00 more and the VFT is 3 inches longer. I would guess you'd get close to 280 fps at 27-60, 330 IBO minus 30 fps for 3 inches less draw = 300 minus 2 fps per pound = 20 = 280. I'd wait! My Wife shoots her Tec 29 better than anything she has had in 18 years.

Don, I agree on the waiting thing. I have e-mailed BT Shooter a couple of times and he is telling me that @ 60# w/ 29" draw and my arrow which is 360gr I should get 300-305 with the new DC Pat. I would think that 270-280 is reachable w/ 27" draw and 60# with your arrow. Just my .02 for what it's worth. This is my first bow that is not a Mathews btw.

RE: Shot some bows today!
Thanks for all the replies. I don't think the patriot is going to fit my goals. It is a great shooting bow and if I just wanted a 3D bow, it would be my choice. The extreme VTF would be another option but the brace height is a little under my minuim of 7".I did get the new catalog for the 2003 Bowtech's and the mighty mite will be the same with the exception of the hush package and they will have the infinity cam which will not be an extra charge this year(I think). I found a 2002 mighty mite at a great price and since I can buy the infinity cam if needed, it would make sence to save some money. Of all the bows I shot , the mighty mite just said,we are ment for each other.I am not tring to start anything, as this is just MY opinion, but I shot the Mathews bows after the Bowtechs and I really think they have caught Mathews and road up the road a little ways<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> Don
