I did that the first day I got my new bow. Pulled it back half way and my release trigger broke right off. Scared me so bad I ruined a good pair of pants. I did get a new release out of it though.

when i got my first bow couple years back and didnt know what i was doing, i was trying out bows and accidentally let one off at 55lb's. Turned around and everybody just gave me a look. after the proshop owner told me what was what, i learned my lesson after that.

i think you'll be fine but leason learned, always have an arrow nocked when you pull back for that exact reason. Being a new bow and 55 pounds I wouldn't think it be a damaging as say a 5 year old bow set at 70lbs

Once while bowfishing at night I drew back upon spotting a buffalo. Little did I know that because I was using my index finger to guide the arrow, it hadalmost completelycome un-nocked. I hit the release and TWAAAAANG!!! Not sure if the string hit my bow arm or if it was just the sheer vibration but my entire arm went dead after the initial gi-normous shooting throbbing pain. Oh, if fish could laugh.
