Help! Puncing The Trigger!
I have been shooting for three years and it seems like every year I get worse. I have noticed that I am punching the trigger really bad on my caliper. Should I get a golden key "The Answer", or go with a back tension release? It's really frustrating to see you shooting go downhill to where it's unbearable. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Try standing closer to the target and when you draw and get everything lined up , close your eyes and just concentrate on squeezing the trigger. Repeat it over and over until your back to a nice smooth release. What your describing is target panic. A new release sometimes helps , but more times than not it ends up being a quick fix and you'll be back in the same boat eventually. It happens to us all at some time or another.

RE: Help! Puncing The Trigger!
I get a bad release occasionally but I don't punch the trigger.
I was planning on switching to the Back Tension Release for hunting and 3-D shoots so I contacted the techs at True Fire [my release is the True Fire X-Caliper] inquiring about the necessary adjustments to make the switch. In that inquiry I learned that there is a Relax to Fire [RTF] feature built into the X-Caliper; the tech advised the RTF if perfected will provide the same type of release and it works for both hunting and target shooting. The controlled release with the Back Tension often takes a few seconds and may not be fast enough for hunting.
I have only shot 60 arrows using RTF so it is not yet mentally automatic but I am convinced that it is a SUPERIOR release and I will not go back to pulling the trigger.
One added benefit is that the RTF method forces the release hand to follow through naturally . . . so far, I have not needed to think of the follow through . . . it's automatic.

DO like BOWFANATIC says. It'll help. I also bought a bernie's can't punch, it helped me to. Another thing I did was buy a Stan saharha bt release, I use it and a length(about 2ft) of release rope and practice backtension. I do it around the house and at work when I have a break. You'll get lots of good advice here on the MB. The blank bale is probably the best, though.

RE: Help! Puncing The Trigger!
I just went out and tried this with my Tru Fire and the first 4 or 5 times, then I tried to draw with my fingertip holding the trigger back and it slipped and I cogged myself in the face and lost an arrow. But the times it did work it was beautiful! Thanks!

RE: Help! Puncing The Trigger!
One thing I did was to adjust my trigger so it was very light and gradually get back to a little bit of a heavier trigger. The light trigger will give that surprise release that you are looking for and, depending how much you practice, give the screw a half turn once a week. Your finger tips have more nerve endings than any other part of your body so you can feel the slightest movement in the trigger. I also don't use my finger tips, I wrap my finger around the trigger so the trigger is touching just behind the first knuckle, I notice trigger movement much less doing that.

Go to the link at the end of this post and read "Developing the Perfect Release Part 1 & 2". Hope this helps. Be safe.
