RE: what to start with
A good bow would be the FX by Mathews, the Stalker by Bowtech or the Reflex bows made by Hoyt. All are priced good and shoot great.
A good rest would be the Golden Key Speedset Hunter, a good quiver Bohning Lynx, and good arrows would be Bemans. I would highly recomend a good sight like the Toxonics Hybrid III, and a good broadhead like the deadhead, thunderhead, rocky mountain ironhead or muzzy 3 blade.
as always go to a local proshop & have them to help you, it is well worth the time to get set up right!

RE: what to start with
This is my fourth hunting season hunting with a Mathews MQ32 and I shoot 3-D with a Mathews Q2XL, so I think any Mathews would be a good choice. Also I woild check out bows from Pearson and McPherson. There new Freedom bow is sweeet and very quite. Also they have the Diamond Back and Hornet that are good hunting bows. Pearson and McPherson are made in Brewton, AL. Good Luck and I hope you love bowhunting as much as I do.

RE: what to start with
I just purchased a bow this year after 6 years of no shooting. I did a lot of research, online, @ sites such as this one, & best of all just talking with people that have been around the industry. After all was said & done this is what I ended up with, & I did a lot of research.
My setup:
Bow Tech Black Night II 71 lbs 30” draw
Bodoodle Pro Lite arrow rest
Easton ACC’s 3-49, 75 grain tip
Stealth 8” Stabilizer
Sure Loc sight
ATC 55mm 4X scope
Mini Blaster 3 mechanical broad heads
Tru-Fire Hurrican release
Good luck, Bow Tech is offering a 50 dollar rebate on 02 bows, & has a new dual cam Patriot that is coming out in 03 with a monster brace height.

RE: what to start with
You will probably get as many differing opinions as you get responses. I wouldn't worry about brand names. They are all good. I recommend that you go to a pro shop and let them help you get started on the right foot. I believe this is 10 times more important than what brand or model you choose. In fact you should spend far more time researching which bow shop in your area has the best reputation. Regardess of what brands they sell, that is where you should go for advise on what to get. Having an experienced person fit the equipment to you is what your goal should be at this stage of experience.
Good luck.
Good luck.
