You want "light" I want 400,
You want 400, and I want 550. I do hope to get a shot at a 900 lb elk though. For puny whitetails, it doesn't make much difference, but for big game, heavy can make a difference.

I too am in the 500 grain class. The arrowsare barely moving ata snails pace;250 something fps....If I can't get clean through an elk perhaps it will tip him over .

I used to kill those wimpy whitetails with a sling shot and some grapes . Light isn't an issue with them unless you really goof up.

Exactly. And exactly why I don't agree carte blanche with this statement:

It's where you hit not how much the arrow weighs!
My first 30 or so deer were pretty much all pass-throughs as well; then one day, I didn't hit as far back as I would have liked and squarely smacked a shoulder blade. I would have liked to have had a heavier arrow that day.

Yep! Another thing to consider is that a light arrow will deflect off small twigs to a greater degree. I want every advantage I can get, once that arrow is unleashed. I found out some time ago that speed didn't give me any advantage, that heavy arrows with very heavy tips gave me very stable arrow flight, with much greater penetration.

How's 267gr out of a 53# bow set up for 3D sound?

My hunting shafts are 315gr coming out of 58#. Only time I haven't gotten a pass-through is when the arrow broke the off-side leg bone trying to exit.

If we're talking about deer there is just too much emphasis put on kinetic energy. Accuracy, my lad. That's what archery is about.

All that sanding would worry me. Are you not effecting the spine of that arrow. How do you know you are getting it evenly sanded. Thin spots will get you less grains but also may break there and be stuck in your arm? Just a thought.I am just another slow log thrower

You are kidding, right? Surely you can't be serious. You've been around long enough to know better.
