you may also want to check out some heavier carbons. The carbons I'm shooting (game tracker terminator hunters) are 12 grains per inch. My finished arrow weight is 541 grains. Im shooting 60 lbs, and at 220 fps, with close to 60 ft lbs. I'd imagine you could get very close to 220 fps with the Nova. Then you'd have enough energy to use a mechanical with a small cutting diameter (NAP Shockwave, RM Snyper, Nail Driver, ETC.). Or you can always just switch to fixed blades or aluminums. Either way, you'll probably spend money on it, so you might as well choose what makes you happiest. Not to sound like I'm advertising, But im in the same boat as you. I went from shooting a PSE with amo speeds around 240 fps with relatively light arrows and wide cutting mech's, to a Hoyt Havoc which is around 225 fps AMO. I wanted to use the same arrows/broadheads, but just didnt have the energy to use them with the current setup, so I went with the heaviest Carbon shaft I could find, and couldnt be happier.

PS, I spine shot a 7 point earlier this year. The head embedded itself into the vertabrae. Pretty cool sovenier.

Like the others have said, your easiest and cheapest solution to get better penetration is to drop the mechanicals and get some decent fixed blade heads...preferably cut-on-contact heads. Note that the 3" vanes on your arrows probably won't stabilize an arrow well with a standard broadhead. I'd refletch them with 4" or 5" vanes depending on how large a diameter broadhead you choose. Even better would be to get some of the heavier carbon arrows available now, if you're dead set against more heavy aluminums.

You do not have the KE needed to cleanly take big game with mechs. The fact that you state you may be using a MiniBlaster.... 1 3/4&quot; cut.... NO WAY!!! Why are you using 3&quot; vanes and a 75 grain head??? Add some weight there before you end up loosing the buck of a lifetime. If I were forced to shoot your bow then I would go to 4&quot; vanes, 100 to 125 grain fixed head and use the CX weight tubes. Please consider doing something before you loose a good animal.... you/WE owe it to the game we hunt.

Ok all preaching aside,I would get either a 90gr 4 blade Muzzy or(my choice)85Gr Thunderhead.I think the Thunderhead will penetrate better because the blades are closer to the tip.My son shot a 50# Nova and the Thunderheads with a 350 grain aluminum and was getting pass throughs on broadside deer.I personally like to stay between 6.5 to 7 grains of arrow weight per pound of draw weight.You are closer to 6.Which is not bad,but even when KE numbers are similar the extra arrow weight will help with penetration.The arrows don't lose momentum or energy as quickly.In a low Ke set up every little bit helps.You're close enough that I would'nt scrap the carbons.Just get a better penetrating head.And keep your shots close,that's the thrill of bowhunting anyway.Now go out and whack one of them Kansas monsters.
