Default Overspined????

I am not even sure I know "exactly" what overspined means. I am shooting Easton Epic 400's with 100 grain 3 blade muzzies at about 62lbs and a 28" draw on an 05 Tomkat. I get pretty good groups but I hear talk of being overspined and that concerns me. Can someone please fill me in on this issue and if any more info is needed on my setup, please let me know. Thanks in advance, LT

Default RE: Overspined????

Spine refers to the stiffness of the arrow, measured in inches of deflection. 400 means the arrow has .400 inches of deflection, but admitedly I don't know exactly how this is measured. For lack of better definition, deflection means "bend." When you release your arrow, the arrow flexes at release. For a release shooter, it flexes up and down and for a finger shooter it flexes side to side. In the traditional archery world this is Archers Paradox. In the traditional style of shooting spine is incredibly important as the right flex is needed for the arrow to "bend" it's way around the riser.

I figured your spine based on a 27" arrow given your 28" DL. The 400 should be right on. As long as your getting good paper holes and groups, your fine.

I shoot your same specs , with a 28" arrow . You are not overspined , you are very close . Overspined is not that bad anyway , underspined , and you in for fits .
