Thanks guys! That does make sense.

Couple questions though , how much added weight does it add? How does FOC change with this setup? And if I'm figuring this correctly , wouldn't the added weight to the fletching end of a carbon arrow strengthen the spine slightly?

I'll give you my setup.

Beman ICS Hunter 340's at 29" with 3-4" fletchings and 100gn tip.
I am on the heavy side as far as spine goes , but I've found that the 340's paper tune bullet holes with far less tinkering than the 400's.

I've seen you repeatedly ask more intelligent technical questions than anyone here. Not only are you absorbing all of this excellent information , your allowing others to learn as well with the type of questions you ask. I thought I already knew all there was to learn before I came here.

Jeff, tinkering is the fun part of archery for me. And I do concur about the 3-60 inserts in IC shafts. One of the resons I chose to go back to ACC's was because of the nock-end of the IC shafts splitting when I hit a nock, or as you said, from even a hard frontal impact. Besides, I just think the quality and consistency is better in the ACC's. Nothing technical here. Just the results I get downrange. And I always figure, why be shooting $1000 worth of bow and accessories and junk arrows.

On some of the earlier wrapped carbon shafts the ends would split even without hitting them with another arrow. We also found that some brands would bend and hold a bend quite easily. By epoxying the metal nock adapters into the nock end, the bending and memory was controlled moreso.

Wow , I was thinking maybe an extra 10-15gns<img src=icon_smile_blush.gif border=0 align=middle> That shouldn't make a bit of difference then. What you guys are saying makes total sense and even supports my concerns. The ICS hunter 340 is the first carbon arrow I ever robin hooded that actually went into the other shaft and stayed connected (much like the alluminum robin hoods). And I've also had to replace the nocks on them very often. They would wear so bad that when I'd draw the bow the nock would stay on the string while my arrow fell to the floor.

I think spine & weight have a lot of bearing on good groups. I think straightness you can play with a little but the spine & weight are important.
