Default Draw length problem.

Hey everyone. This is my first post on this board, and first of all, I would like to say hello. My question is, I have a Jennings Buckmaster, I believe it is the first one that came out. I hung it up about two years ago because of a bad case of target panic. Well, I am trying to start shooting again and I just had a new string and harness put on it and now the draw is too long. What could cause this? I use a release and I wonder if that could be a problem? I am going to try a new release and see if that helps, maybe a smaller release will help? Also, the target panic is still there, could that be due to my anchor being too far back? I appriciate any help, Thanks.

See you on the water and in the woods.

Welcome to the board!

Get your drawlength adjusted to the correct length now. Right now. Before your next shooting session. Seriously. By shooting a too-long drawlength you are just reinforcing a bad habit: target panic. You are most likely over straining your back and shoulder muscles in order to hold at full draw. This causes all sorts of problems.

Have a pro shop measure you properly and adjust your bow in order to get you started again correctly.

Releases can also cause problems. I have little hands and had to radically modify my release in order for it to work for me. You don't want to have to stretch your finger to reach the trigger. A long release aid might be making you anchor too far back. Good luck.

Default RE: Draw length problem.

I had my draw shortened yesterday at the proshop. My length is 29" and thats as far as the bow can go down to. I also have small hands for an adult. The release I use is A tru-fire with the wrist strap. I`m thinking of going back to the hand held three finger design. Since I am just starting to shoot again, I had my bow set at 56lbs to re-develope my muscles again, so I don`t really need the extra support of the wrist strap. I know what you mean when you say that too long a draw strains the muscles of the back and shoulders, it seems I am getting a real workout with just a short session, I don`t think I should feel any strain with that light of wieght. I`ll go to the shorter release and see if that does it, if not, I`m probably looking at buying a different bow. Thanks for the suggestions Mouse.

See you on the water and in the woods.
