Default broadhead weight dilemma

I'm trying to decide which weight broadhead to go with, 125 or 100 grain. I'm shooting a 26" draw switchback, using Gr broadheads, the arrow weight is 376 grains with 14% FOC. Chrono'd this arrow at 70# speed was 252 fps. To gain some speed, I am considering dropping the broadhead weight down to 100 grain, making the total weight 351 grains with a 12% FOC. I'm not shooting mechanical broadheads due to the approximately 55 ft/lb of energy, but I'd like to get pass threw's if possible. Any recommendations??

You could certainly use the 100 grain heads and still get excelent flight. You will gain about 10 fps by going to a 100 grain head.

However, you will be shooting right at 5 grains per pound of draw weight.

I would think you would be getting more speed than you are even at a 26 inch draw. Seems you should be close to 270 fps.

yeah, Iwas a little unimpressed with my numbers... I'm not sure what the problem is, but I'm hating my short draw length right now

You are shooting about right. I think the IBO on a switchback is 316 fps you loose 10-12 fps per inch below 30". Plus a few items such as nock, loopand peep.Plus an extra 26 grains of weight per arrow. You would be about 65-70 fps below IBO approx 251fps. I would say you are doing good. My buddy's Switch back with a 27" draw and about 385gr arrows is shooting at 265fps. He has a drop away rest, maybe the whisker bisquit is slowing it down a few more fps
I haveseen many people boasting about how fast thier bows are and they are stunned when they shoot thru a chrono and it is no where near what they expected. My bow has an IBO of 333 fps and you can see my speed in my signature and that has been shot thru 2 different chronos.

Your numbers are right on bro........I shoot the same set-up 26 inch draw , maxed at 70lbs shooting a 26 inch shaft, 100 grain heads.. total arrow weight is right at 366.5 grains and I'm just getting a whopping 262 fps average...

your numbers are just fine..

for pass throughs it's usually best to keep the arrow on the heavy side, especially at the longer distances. For the 25 grain weight change you not talking enough to really worry about one or the other though, either would have enough, and alsowith that little bit of speed increase your not talking about a flatter tajectory either because I doubt you will see the differance unless you shoot out past 60-70 yards. then you will see the heavier arrow carrying better than the lighter one..

speed speed speed highly over rated........ nothing wrong with 252....

That boar in my pic went just under 300lbs and my arrow smoked through him like hot butter, I have always gotten passthru's on everything from turkeys to deer to big hogs...

I'm using a Blackhawk Vapor 4000 series cut at 25 inches using 100 montec's and four inch vanes...

Shootng that set-up your using you should be getting passthru's with no problem....
