Default I may be nuts but

Is there a way to preserve (mount) a crab?

Yes, I do them all the time, beging by opening or removing the carapace(Shell) by using a knife slowy work it 'till it comes loose then remove all the inners, prepare a plastic bucket with 50 % denature alcohol and 50% water add 1 lb of borax ,stir until it disolves ,place the crab in there for 5 to 6 days, youmust inject the legs and the arms with a syringe and denature alcohol,then remove from solution, let air dry for a few hours, then put the carapace back and super glue it. position the crab how you want it,and hold position with pieces of foam,wood whatever and place it to dry with a fan on for 1 week or two(Depends on the ambient humidity), then re-color with an airbrush.
