Default Rat Terrier Won't Mind

I just got a Rat Terrier a couple of months ago. He around a year old and is kind of onry. I am spending a lot of time with him and I havent got anywhere. I spent one day just TRYING to get him to sit. He never did. i heard somebody tell me dogs only listen to certain peoples voices and not others. I did'nt want to use a shock collar, but it may come to it. anybody got any advice???

Terriers have a short attention span and are hard to train sometimes. I dont think I'd use a shock collar for that kind of training. Just be firm and be patient.

he evidently is not motivated by his liking of you ...try some good treats, he might be food motivated.

Get some puppy treats (or just some hotdog weiners) and everytime he does what you say, praise him and then give him a reward!! You may have to literally "sit" him down a time or two, (push down on rear, up on head gently) but he will catch on really fast!!

Works everytime! Then as he/she ages, cut down on amount of the treat...

My dogs just sit everytime I open the fridge...but they hunt very well!

Get a good book on obedience training and start at step 1 regardless of the age of your dog.
Male terriers are a close second to male hounds when it comes to the degree of difficulty with obedience.
Good luck!
