RE: Kennel or chain
Most of the dogs I've had have been kept on a chain but I now have a kennel. I don't know that one is better or worse than the other. The only problem I had with a chain was that if there were sticks or something that could get caught in the chain it would start to tangle. Other than that both work fine.

RE: Kennel or chain
I have both. I had all my dogs in kennels, until my rottweiler dicided she didn't like being in there. She would chew the bottom where the fence is tied to the brace and break the tie wire. After repairing this several times, she broke the door. She just got too big. And she had plenty of room to play, she just doesn't like being out of sight of me. So now, shes on a chain with a stake that is cemented into the ground. She seems to like it better than being inside the kennel. Maybe just a mental thing. If set up correctly, both can be safe and clean.
