My Dog Rocks!
Everyone,
Yesterday I was pheasant hunting and I came across a guy who was having trouble finding a lightly wounded bird. I happened to see where the bird went into cover and blocked while the guy came toward me. No luck. I then told him to quicly circle back in case the bird was behind him (sneaky buggers). While he looked I went to the suburban and dumped out my " nose" . Dixie is a 7 year old English Setter. She immediately started looking as soon as I said " find the bird, Dixie!" She nailed it with in about 3 minutes. Classic! front leg up tail high, looking slightly left at the ground about 6 inches from her nose.
I called the hunter back and told him to take his time because Dixie has his bird nailed. She held the point rock steady for 2 minutes while he came back. At 10 feet he said " I see it!" I told him to get ready and I would have her flush him. As soon as I said, " Get him Dix!" She busted him and so did he. She fetched the bird to my hand and I was as proud of her as I would be my own children!
I didn' t get to shoot at all yesterday but I couldn' t keep from smiling all the way home.
I just had to gloat!
