Very Disturbing Encounter...
Yesterday, while at the local Petco buying supplies, I ran into a lovely young woman with a 12-week-old puppy that appeared to be mostly Labrador Retriever, but was obviously of mixed blood.
He had a large white spot on his chest that was ticked with black; he had a nice, lean, angular build and a somewhat sharper head than most Labs. He pranced around and carried his tail very high. I knew what I was looking at but I had to confirm: I asked her what kind of dog she had and she replied, " He' s half Lab and half Irish Setter."
I asked where she got him and she said from a breeder of pointing labradors that told her that the breeding was " an accident" and that she could pick out any of the puppies that had white on them and have them at a discount rate, but that he was keeping the ones that were all black. I then asked her if the cross was actually to an English Setter and she said she had been mistaken earlier and that indeed was the case.
Why on earth would a breeder of pointing Labradors keep only the all-black puppies from an " accidental" cross between one of his Labs and an English Setter?

Sounds like you already know what he' s up to!!!! [:@] That' s why AKC is now requiring DNA for frequently used Sires. Would not be a bad thing to ask for when picking out a pup no matter who it is or how many litters they have had. If this guy is a breeder then most likely his stud is a frequently used Sire and does have DNA testing. Maybe somebody will DNA the all black pup down the line and bust him.
