Default Funny Doggy Stories

Hey how's it going everyone? I know there has to be quite a few funny stories about dogs in both the field or at home so its all good What was the funniest thing your dog(s) ever did while out in the field? If not the field then at home. I have quite a bit but i'll tell one to start it off. Couple of years ago when my German Shorthaired Pointer (whom i had to get rid of due to a stupid cat) when he was about 8 months old roughy if recall. I went to a pheasant hunt near my house at the time and it wasn't all that great of a place, too many hunters and not enough birds. The birds were released out of pen connected to a truck and hunters would literlly shoot the birds (you could shoot Hens) as they were being let go and i found it very undesirable. Traz wanted to fetch these birds but was able to control the urge to run off into the distance and after about 40 minutes when he was out in front of me he flushed up a rooster. He never saw a pheasant before let alone know what the scent was so he was just running around looking for whatever. It was funny because the bird scared him and before he realized what happened i got the bird and hit the ground. He ran over to the bird and at first was kinda trippin' on what it was and just after a few seconds, he did a picture perfect point while standing about literally 2 inches away from it. I guess it was the thought that counts *l* Anyway i was proud of him and even though all the birds were dead by that time, he was looking for more and proud of him.

Ok. First off let me say this didn't happen to me but to some friends of the family. In my hometown we had, well let's just say,a couple of colorful feller's. These two were identical twins, Warren and Wayne. They had a great love of Labs. They also had some of the best labs in our area. They herd of a new looking lab that wasn't ever seen in our parts, a Chocolate Lab. Well you guessed it, they had to have one. They both got in touch with a breeder and soon had 2 of the "purdiest" Chocolate Lab pups you ever did see. To honor the occassion, they each went out and bought brand new shotguns, Rem 870's I believe. When the pups were around 3 months old the brothers were messing around with the shotguns and had the pups in the basement with them. They had to leave for a while and just laid the shotguns on the couch in the basement and left without putting the pups in their coop. When they got home that evening they checked in on their beloved pups to find that they had had a field day in the basement and ate the stocks and forearms off both brand new shotguns. One more for you. These same two brothers had a couple very nice yellow labs. They use to take these dogs everywhere with them. One day one of the brothers went ice fishing on Lake Superior and as he was fishing his lab would run from shanty to shanty visiting with everyone in the area. Well soon enough he hears his dog whinning and looks to see just the head sticking out of the ice. His dog had ventured out too close to the mouth of the river and had fallen through thin ice and was hanging on for dear life as the current of the river was trying to pull her under the ice for good. Against all the yelling and warnings from all the guys in the area, Warren went to the rescue of his dog. He laid flat on the ice and scooted out to the edge and got hold of her collar and pulled her to freedom on top of the ice. How he never managed to fall through at his 190lbs when his 65+lb dog went through is something else. Oh yeah, then there was the time they had a good black lab and a young chocolate and they were riding the logging roads shooting ruffed grouse and having the dogs retrieve them from the back of the truck. One of them seen a big owl sitting on an old snag and decided to kill it to save a few more grouse, big time illegal. The one brother shot the owl, which dropped right there and the other brother sent his big black lab to retrieve it. When the lab got there the owl sprang up and promptly sank his talons into the dogs head and started squawking and beating the dog with it's wings. The brother that owned the lab was yelling to his brother to shoot the owl again before it ruined his dog off birds. His brother was laughing so hard he couldn't and told him if he shot again he would surely kill is best bird dog. The owl let go and they called their dog back to the truck and took off before the owl changed it's mind so they say. Like I said they were a couple of very colorful individuals. Stories like this for a young kid like me in the 70's were enough to keep me laughing for days. Hope you like these stories, and sad but true they are all true.

That was a good one hawkeyes I have another story. The same dog i had with pointing at the dead pheasant. When he was really young and i had him only after two days, i took him to a river that was almost dry. There was this large pool about waist deep and pretty good sized around. I was with my ex girlfriend at the time and she was with me there. It was during the summer and i was wearing some old raggy jeans so i just took off my shoes and socks and walked in to the water enjoy myself. Next thing i know I hard Cassie (the ex) calling for Traz and i turned around and he was following me, keep in mind he was barely over the age when puppies can be taken away from their mothers, and he was already swimming. Guess he find out how much he loved the water because after that it was hard to get him out *l* The funny thing about this is he didn't ever listen to my girlfriend (didn't like her honestly) at all and didn't even go in the water after she tried to get him in there. That's my puppy

Well I have a young Chessie and he loves cold and he loves water. Yesterday it was 16 below and we went for a walk down by my creek which is spring fed and never freezes over completely even at 20 or 30 below. He jumps in and swims around for a while and when he came out he immediately turns white from ice forming on his coat and he is actually panting and looks at me as if to say "wow" this fun. When we have snow (which we have had very little this winter) he plays "snow plow". He shove his nose into the snow and then runs with his nose acting like a "v" snow plow. He is as silly looking as any goof ball you ever saw when he looks up at you with snow on his muzzle and what looks like a grin on his homely mug.
