Trainer near central Illinois needed....
I have a started English Pointer and would like to get him finished out by this upcoming dove season(maybe definitely by pheasant season). I just need some help as this is my first time training a hunting dog.

Hey Petry, where you at in central Illinois?? I was born and raised in Peoria. Dont know any good or great trainers there, everybody I know are yank and crank trainers..Ruin more than they make, sorry...will be in peoria around july something, not for sure when.....and folks comin down when weather breaks....shouldnt take alot, wouldnt worry about doves, not a good shake with bird dogs, scent is not good, or great......not fair to dog thats bred to run.....to make sit threw all like a retriever.....your call, but will not personally do it. If you haven't yet, find a good gundog book and read it.I would highly recommendDelmar Smith/Bill Tarrant's book to get a handle on dog training. It will help in finding the right trainer. Alot of trainers methods
are based on it.
Find and join a club. NSTRA,AFTCA, or any club of that style - mainly, field, upland birds. NAVDIA style are okay but mainly geared towards versatiles. The NSTRA club in my area usually gives free training clinics every year.
