Virginia Hunting Club Info
Hey all...I live in the Northern Virginia area, and I was hoping that someone or anyone out there would be able to provide me with some information on a decent hunting club around my area. I suppose I've gotten spoiled with hunting good land for years prior to moving here, and I was hoping to be able to have access to private land to hunt through a club.
Any information is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Welcome to the board whitewolf! [8D]
There's a bunch of us VA hunters scattered all over the region. We have been trying to organize our own hunt club and have been checking out different places, land, etc....
I am down here in the Richmond area and I can tell you straight up, hunt clubs are very top secret and a precious thing to be part of. A lot of them are NOT taking new members and are geared towards immediate family members and other relatives.
A bunch of the northern VA guys will probably step up and repond to this thread too, so they can provide a lot more info on the area. Most of them hunt Quantico and Belvoir or sometimes the WMA's up there. Others have luckily found a private piece of land - which in itself is a very special (and lucky!) thing to have.
Again, I want to say WELCOME to this board! Lots of great people here, so sit back and enjoy!

Butch,
Thanks for the info, to be sure. There was one that I check out online called "National Sportsman Association", that was a hunting club around my area, I think. I e-mail them for information on getting involved.
You're absolutely right in that hunt clubs and private land as well are precious things and very classified to most people. I haven't had much luck in finding one yet, but it'd be great insomuch as the other NOVA guys would reply and we could combine forces to either create or find one for our area.
Thanks for the welcome, and I look forward to learning alot here!

Whitewolf, good luck. I've been in the NVA area for 20 years and finding a private place to hunt is tough to say the least. T%he WMA's are a joke due to the amount of hunters trying to get into the area. I've found that alot of the hunt clubs aren't much better to be honest. If you try the national forests, you'll have more land to yourself but less wildlife and it'll take years to figure out where to hunt. Originally from PA, I find it easier to just hunt up there. Out of state license isn't that bad and lots of 'Game Lands' to choose from. Wish I had better news for you. A good start I've found is to start in the late spring. knocking on farmers doors asking to groundhog hunt. Most want them harvested and if you show respect to the property, it often leads to permission to hunt deer.

Highpower,
You're absolutely right, although I may have caught a break because my friend's sister just bought some land a bit farther south, so that may be opening up very soon.
I have heard all kinds of horror tales about the WMA's here in this state to echo what you said, and I'm not thrilled about hunting on them at this point. However, my schedule will soon be changing, and I'll have the opportunity to hunt on Monday mornings from now on. I haven't yet hunted in the national forests in this state, either, but I have no doubt that it's what you said - it would take a long time to figure out where the game is, and I'd have to start on foot right after the season ends to get a feel for where the game is going to be thereafter.
I did get some info on a hunting club called the National Sportsman Association, and they have some 5000+ acres to offer, but it's rather expensive - something like 830.00 to included a one time 430.00 initiation fee. I obviously haven't seen their land, but it's all supposedly within an hour or so of where we live.
