Va's gov. and gun shows
Alright all you va. hunters/gun collectors,,etc... we need to get Tim Kaine back in line!
I find it to be quite disgusting for the Va. gov. to have a press conference condeming the so-called "gun show loophole" while standing beside him were parents and friends of the Va. Tech shootings,,,when the shooter bought his gun legitimately from a dealer.
Im gonna put up his website so you can read more on it,,,and maybe you'd like to send this jacka$$ an email and let him know what ya think!

RE: Va's gov. and gun shows
I sent him one. I know it sounds soft at the end but they sometimelisten if they don't feel attacked/insulted. Politics I guess. This is it.
While I certainly support background checks for purchasing firearms what I don't support and find a little odd is how this announcement was made and I quote " The Governor made the announcement standing with family members of students killed or injured in April’s Virginia Tech shootings, as well as legislators and members of the law enforcement community."
Odd because information released stated the shooter in the VA Tech shootings did not purchase his firearms through a loophole at a gunshow he purchased them legally with a background check at a firearms dealer. It seems like support for this is trying to be gained by playing on sympathy and by leading people to believe the VA Tech shootings and gunshow loopholes are somehow related.
Rather thantrying toclose gun show "loopholes" why don't we try to address why an individual with psychological problems recognized by our courts and who had been deemed by the court to be a possible"threat to himself" is not in some way flagged. Flagging his social security number so that when he attempted to purchase a firearm would and should have denied the purchase.
It seems in the wake of tragedies like the VA Tech shootings people fumble around attempting to "correct" the system but often times they completly miss the root cause of the problem or fix a completly different problem just to be doing something in an effort to be proactive.
Furthermore there are some things that can't be fixed. There will always be those who through their actions cause fear and temporary chaos but we can not sacrifice the rights or continually strangle the rights of other law abiding citizens because of that.
Just one mans opinion but I'm sure I'm not alone.
On a lighter note I thought of a slogan for the Cigarette Ban.
Cigarettes Make You Stink!!
For the record, Good Job to you and your staffand any response would be bestsent to my e-mail.

If you don't mind me asking how did you approach reponding to him? You don't have to post youre-mail or anything I just mean in general. Did you read him the riot act, plead your case, what? I rarely repond to stuff like this and I am just curious.
For the record I have no idea if Kaine and his staff do a good job (I know I probably should) or what his approval rating in the state is, I figured I would be more likely to get a response/explanation if I played nice. Maybe not, probaly won't matter much either way.

RE: Va's gov. and gun shows
I know.... I don't care too much for Gov Kaine. We don't need to close a gun show loophole. The nutjob at VA Tech bought his gun from a dealer, not a gun show. I was nice, respectful, but just a little stern in my email to him. My brother-in-law is a LEO and has worked downtown Richmond, and has been behind closed doors, if you know what I mean... He told me flat out what he thinks of Gov Kaine. [&:]

I know he was trying to get the newVA driving laws/fines repealed so that is a good thing but I'm sure there are loads of things going onIdon't even knowabout. I'm admittedly ignorant to politics, what's worseis it's by choice.

wish i coulda worded my email as well as yours,,,, i feel sorry for the parents,,etc.. because im sure their looking for someone to blame for this incident,,But i wish that our gov. would put focus on such issues as to why it took the school security so long to get the school locked down from the 1st shot to the last shot and like you stated before,,,this guy was a threat to all he encountered for periods well before this all happened,,, it just disgusts me how the people that get elected to uphold the laws and look out for us,,,seem to turn things around to fit their agenda,,,thanks for taking the time to send emails ,,,all of you

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - A state Senate committee has killed legislation backed by families of the Virginia Tech shooting victims to close a loophole that allows criminals and the mentally ill to buy firearms at gun shows without a background check.
The Courts of Justice Committee voted 9-6 today to reject the bill before sending it to the Virginia State Crime Commission for study. A House of Delegates committee last week rejected similar legislation, so the issue appears to be dead for this General Assembly session.
The bill would have required private sellers to run criminal background checks on buyers at gun shows. Federally licensed dealers already are required to conduct such checks.
The gunman who killed 32 people at Virginia Tech before killing himself in April didn't buy his weapons at a gun show, but families of the victims supported the bill as one way to prevent a similar tragedy.
