The deer I saw this weekend exhibited no rutting activity. I saw a spike and a 3 point basically ignore three does. I am seeing a lot of scrapes and rubs around my stand. Maybe things will "heat" up this week when it gets cool. I hunt in west-central Arkansas.

I am in Marshall, 50 miles south of Harrison on Hwy65, I have not seen evidence of rut here. Plenty of scrapes and rubs. The bucks are not chasing the does though. The only thing doing any chasing this morning was someones dog chasing a doe.

The best of luck in all your hunting endeavors!!!

God Bless,
Dave

I'm hunting south arkansas and from what I'm hearing the peak has pasted us up. Several deer killed in this area have been shot while chasing, Although I have seen several small bucks ignore a couple of doe. I'm still seeing alot of scrapes, but I personally haven't seen them chasin.

I am betting the best is yet to come. Why? last weekend i saw loads of does with yearlings . all staying close to momma. now this weekend yearlings were alone, most that is. i think the rut comes much later in arkansas than some think. last year deer activity was in a lull. but while i was hunting the last muzzleloader season i saw lots of deer on the move and bucks chasing does. most hunters were done or burnt out. they all made claims that the ice storm killed the deer. well i know they were full of bull!!!!
Scrapes are everywhere and very fresh , to the point some were wet when i saw them this weekend. i also saw just a fraction of the does i did the weekend prior to this weekend. this tells me personally it's time to get into the thickets. in my area the deer will chase and breed in the thickets. the does as they come in will stay in the thick to create some resistance for bucks chasing them. i've seen this while hunting. i just think the next two weeks will be good hunting and if all goes well i will have a week to hunt hard for another wall hanger . but i won't be where it's pretty and you can see hundreds of yards. i'll be where up a tree you can maybe see 75.
oh yeah saturday morning i heard two bucks racking there heads togather . it was brief but no doubt what it was. where were they ? a 80 acre thicket to the north of my pasture stand. and i think i better be in there about friday.
just one hunters opinion based on over 30 years of hunting south arkansas deer in the same area.

soarkrebel, I sure hope you are right. I start vacation Thursday thru the following weekend and plan on being in the woods everyday. If thats the case then surely he'll show his face at one point or another.

Monday, I saw evidence of the rut taking place in Saline County (north, Ouachita Mt. area). I saw a 5 pt chasing a doe for all she was worth, and several other deer running at each other in the thicket. It sounded like a couple of trains were coming through, lol. I think the cold weather may have instigated things. As an aside, that 5 pt is now in my freezer! Good luck everyone.

kgkoon love is in the air!!! or was for one!and maybe to add to that . i live in the boonies just south of lake ouachita and i mean just south. to the north of my property line is all national forest. i was outside yesterday in my shop and heard a distinct sound. you ever heard a doe bleat that was in heat? well i hadnt but i have now. a doe was running around bellowing like a cow. i would not have believed it had i not seen the doe. so maybe there is something to the love can called the primo's can!

MO, decent area to hunt from what i have been told.
