Default South Texas Deer

Why are deer in South Texas so much larger and sporting larger racks than deer in other parts of TX. Seems it is so barren and Hot there most of the year and it would be difficult to find adequate nutrition.

This is debated a lot here in Texas. I would say a combination of genetics and the herd not being overpopulated are a couple of reasons. Another reason is tht there are still a number of large undeveloped tracts of land so the deer can grow up. Of course all that barren looking brush that you see in South Texas is one of the better browse feeds for whitetails that you will find. JMO
