Well during the archery season it's illegal, however I may during the general fireamrs season. I'm licsened to carry at at all times in Va. Only once did I use my side arm when I didn't make what I thought was an accurate shot.

Ok, I asked the FWC,and there answer was in Florida you cancarry a Handgun at all WMA's (not in hunting season) if you have a concealed weapons permit,as long as it remains concealed, you may do so on all WMAs except for: Camp Blanding, Raiford, Eglin AFB, Tyndall AFB, Avon Park AFB, Big Cypress and all 6 national wildlife refuges.

I've often considered the same issue, but for reasons different than mentioned here. I mostly hunt KY and S. ILLINOIS, and we've got meth-heads cooking dope all over the place. Our land in IL borders national forest land that is open to everybody, wacko's included. I always carry a firearm to the farm, but have never gone to the woods with it. It is majorly illegal, but I'm beginning to wonder if its not worth the risk. I've never encountered this sort of thing, but my thinking is, it only takes once.

Concealed handguns may be in the possession of hunters during the archery and muzzleloading seasons when they also possess a valid concealed handgun permit. Such handguns may not be used to shoot wild animals during these seasons.

Anytime I'm going into the woods I carry a handgun at the minimum. I have a concealed carry permit and it's legal, so why not? I normally carry a SigPro 2340 chambered for 357 SIG.
