Virginia Sunday hunting..... (again)
Hey guys...
There is a new House Bill (632) out that is proposing Sunday hunting in Virginia, but only west of the Blue Ridge.
Check this out:

Also, here is the latest status of the bill that you can follow up on:

What do you all think?

I remember the new Governor'sresponse to the question of Sunday hunting. He was not in favor of it at all. The other candidates were in favor of Sunday hunting.[/align]

Rick,
In the Roanoke paper (Bill Cochran's column), there was an interview with the 3 candidates....
Kaine: Supports hunting on Sundays.
Kilgore: Might support it, but only on private land.
Potts: Doesn't want it, doesn't care. Doesn't hunt or fish.
Let me try to dig up the article and I'll post the link...
Butch A.
Edit: Bingo!!! Here's the link....

IMO, I feel if youallow Sunday huntingin part of the state, you shouldallow it for all of the state. I hunt mainly east of the blue ridge but I have land in thewestso I would take advantage of it. I would much rather see Sunday hunting state wide and a September bow opener such as the case in North Carolina.

I agree with VAhunter, allow it in the entire state. Honestly it doesn't make sense to restricthunting on private lands on sundays. being a graduate student i have relatively little time to hunt except on weekends so this would be ideal for me. Regarding state lands, people also have a right to enjoy state land one day a week without fear of careless hunters.
its a no brainer to me, especially if the government wants to better control the deer population. The yearly and seasonal bag limits would still be in place (thus avoiding over harvesting), you would just be giving hunters a better chance of filling those tags and controlling the population.

I'll be suprised if it happens anytime soon. Of those 3 bills you mentioned, I like the one that gives the localities the control the best. I definately do not like the east/west blue ridge, nor do I like the opening Sunday of each season either. IMO, if you allow Sunday hunting it should be statewide and last through the entire hunting season.

I like the Sunday off...It gives my feet and the deer time to rest. Virginia has faced this issue many times and it hasn't passed. On the other hand West Virginia has hunted on Sundays in past seasons, so there is precedent. My preference is an earlier bow season like NC, say the 15th...instead of a Sunday of hunting.
