Ps, anybody got a read on the crossbow impact? Anybody seeing gangs of newbies puttin shafts into anything that moves?

RE: How's Quantico lookin?
looked to be at least 6-pointers, each had to be over 90 lbs dressed. was there with both young'uns, so just got a glimpse across the parking lot. My youngest DID NOT want to be there, so coudn't stop, gawlk and chit-chat. Business at the license counter and the permit window were brisk, the parking lot full. This was after noon. Big news, open season on bear there. Subject to the statewide dressed-weight limit, but bear is open[8D]

6's, 15's and 17's seeem to be consistent producers, but I don't expect anyonw will be giving up the hot areas or the glory holes here. In the past, seen plenty of sign in the thick s*** back side of the resevoir but it's hell gettin through that stuff. Like the man at the window says, they're all good. Took my boy through one of the 6's last year for his first hunt, jumped two does 15 ft down the path. Drops the muzzle of the 20ga, points ans says "look Dad"! Watching the tails bounce off into the distance, patintly reminded him, the object is to shoot, point later.

I don't know about Quantico, but AP Hill is not too bad. I got one on Saturday. A small buck, first one with a bow ever. A lot of hunters are deep in the woods, deer tend to be staying close to the fields. Not a lot of large acorns this year. Only a few large bucks, but they tend to light in weight. The buck I got weighed in at 55 pounds. The nexts are not swollen yet. The game warden thinks the rut will be the first week of gun season.

RE: How's Quantico lookin?
Things are starting to heat up on Quantico, we are about 1 week later than last year. I am not just making that up, for the last 5 years I have hunted Q non-stop during this time of the year and kind of know whatsup, the pre-rut is late this year. I had an 8-10 pointer move through at 35 yards today, too windy, and not a good angle. I will be back tomorrow all day to see if I can do some damage.
