Default How Many Coyotes?

OK guys, bragging time!

What is the most 'yotes you got in one season? How many is your grand total and how long you been chasing 'em?

I'm a newbie (been about 4 times this summer) and so far I've got one this year with a chance of killing two, but I blew the second shot. Now I'm waiting for cooler weather to really get serious.

Just curious....

grand total?? havn't a clue, lost track a long time ago.most in one season??don't realy remember that either.i think it was 18 or 20,but to do that i had to cover just about every bit of state land and many privite tracks in all of western and southern tier new york.but i do remember the most in one day was 4.a double from one pack and two others from seperate areas.somtime in the early 90's i succsesfully harvested 5 coyotes from one pack of 7 across the whole season.this pack needed to be eraticated, they were wiping out ever rabbit, pheasant, fox and that summers fawn population all around my house and in my favoraite huntin spots .had to get real serious to accomplish 5 of 7.after the first two(juvaniles)the rest were real educated.my first encounter with a ny coyote was in the early 80's,they have been educating me ever since.

i hunt two ways one is by callin and the other is by runnin the hounds,by calling i usually get about 25 a year,by runnin the dogs you can add another 100 to it we hunt about five days a week from noon till dark from jan till the end of march.
a typical day is we put the dogs in a block to jump and then back off to another block to do some callin this way if one comes to the call and i miss he is still in a world of trouble because it is not long before a couple of dogs are walked to the track and the chase is on.we average between two to three a day and some days zero just depends if the yotes are hungry or the dogs can smell.the best day i ever had was we had a fresh snow and i popped over a hill on a flat and there was 19 directly in front of me and my buddy we drove within 50 yards of them and got out of the truck and starting shooting,i started with my shotgun, switched to my ar15 with two clips and then went to my 6m for long range shootin and when the smoke had cleared there was 12 laying in the snow dead.the longest was 600 yards away,i will never experence that ever again i doubt,my guess was there was at least two or thee bitches in heat and it was one big orgy.we ended up killing twenty seven coyotes that day i have never seen such a day although it has been at least 15 years ago but every time we hunt that area it brings back memories of that hunt.we seem to have a more coyotes today than we did at that time, but never packed up like that.we usually see about eight or nine a day and the worse part about it towards the end of march we still have no problem killing coyotes it seems there is no end to them.
here a few years ago we had the big boys of the department of conservation hunt with us and the could not believe the amount of coyotes they seen. we do have a problem with coyotes here and when cows start calving they get their share of them,so there is never a problem of getting permission to hunt them.i do my share of calling and enjoy tricking them into a free meal but to me the only way to kill large numbers of them is to run dogs and to hear 7 or 8 dogs hot on the track is just as exiting.i was out friday evening checking my cams at whole litter started howling in the corn so i starting doing some calling and got one of them to come out and die but i would say there was eight or nine in the corn, and i did my best to kill every one of them out there last year because this is my prime deer place, but like they say shoot one and three takes it place.

I'm no pro song dog hunter but I kill 25-30 per year all on the section of land I live on. I shoot them when I see them not actually hunting them.

Hi, I'm in New Jersey, still waiting for the Sep. 28 small game season and my first day afield as a hunter, but the new Fish and Game digest is now out in the stores and I see it is reporting that 'yotes are now found...even in parts of Essex and Union counties! These two counties are among the most developed and populated areas on the east coast-just short of New York City levels. I am also seeing deer only about 2 miles south of my current residence of Irvington,(next to Newark) an area even more urban and overpopulated. I assume 'yotes may someday follow this food source.
Press reports have it that the the coyotes here are a wolf/yote hybrid.
I've seen the recent NRA Video Series footage of two such animals pulling down and slaughtering a healthy full size deer. I knew they took the young and sick ones...but this? Impressive.
Anyway, they're here in urbanland, guess I'll have a chance at one someday soon but..."0" for now...
May your game bag always be full!

No idea how many total, but have gotten 8 one day while calling with a couple guys in Texas, should've had more, called in 24 that day. The other two guys had itchy trigger fingers and would not wait for the yotes to get close, and or would take moving shots. Never kept track of how many in a year I've taken. I only call late fall or early winter into about March, and give'm the rest of the year off.
