17 hmr at 75 yards
Ive been doing some reasearch and every one is telling me that the 17 hmr is deadly to coyotes anywhere from 0-115 yds but i was wondering should i aim for the head or the vitals of the coyote when they come into this range and does anyone know how the new 17 cailber xtp amunition is cause ive heard it has much more penatration then the other types. ~!!~Hunting Is My Life~!!~

Ive been trying to find as much info on this too. Ive read that people have taken vital shots with the XTP and had but when using the BT there not enough penitration for a vitial shot. Im thinkin once i get my gun ill go neck or skull shots with the BT. Im not going to be taking many yotes to justify buying a $12 for 50 rounds only to use 5 or so.

I still say you are much better off to take them behind the shoulder. Even a big coyote isn't that deep side to side and as long as you don't hit the shoulders you should be able to easily punch deep enough for a clean kill. I know a few guys that have shot a lot of coyotes with thier 17hmr and all have had no problem under 100 yards with body shot coyotes.
