RE: good varmint rifle
If you want a nice rifle that will last you forever i suggest going with something from Europe. They are beautifully made rifles with superb accuracy. Next year sometime, both Tikka and Sako are coming out with lefthanded actions for almost all their guns. I'm waiting to get a letf hand Laminated Stainless.
Here the gun i was talking about.

NEF Single shot .223, Under $200 at walmart, Winchester sells a 40rnd box of .223 right now that goes for under what most 20rnd boxes sell for. Either that, or you're looking at something SEVERELY USED. I'm pretty certain NEF puts out a heavy bbl version too, at least they do in the Handi-rifle...I can't promise the heavy bbl handi rifle is under $300, but I'm pretty certain it is!!!

I would go with a .22 mag or a 22-250 if you also want to use it on rabbits and yotes, but if youhave the money...i would buy a .22lr for rabbits and squirels, and a 22-250, .223, or a .243 for yotes.
