varmit rifle
I am thinking getting a Savage 12BVSS in 22-250. they say that the twist is 1-12, what bullet weight would that twist rate be good for? I was wanting to shoot the Win. balistic tip 40gr.
what do you guys think about that gun in that caliber? I was debting the the 22-250 or the same gun in a .243 to shoot the 55gr. blistic tips. I have a .243 NEF ultra varmiter but I never shoot it to find out how accurite it is. the savage in .243 has a twist rate of 1-9.25"

The 22-250 likes a little heavier bullet than 40 gr. I shoot the 55 gr hornady v-max and mine loves them. It actually shoots any 55 gr bullet well. I don' t think you will get as good accuracy with a 40 gr bullet in the 250

RE: varmit rifle
Hey parnter, i live in VA and personal i own a .17 caliber Remington basically its just a .223 necked down to a .17 caliber casing and it shoots roughly 4, 063 fps. It doesnt push quite a heavy a bullet as you might like (.25 grains) but for the speed it travels it has one hell of a knock down punch. I dont know about you but thats the fastest varmint bullet i know of. They are the most accurate rifle i feel like used today for hunting coyotes, bobcats and foxes.
Well im new on here my first reply so i hope it comes to some use.
Feel free to write back.

Savages are good guns. All I've witnessed are VERY accurate (never owned one, yet). The accutrigger is sweet too...I can't wait until all the manufacturer come out with a similar system.
I own a Ruger M77VT MkII in 22-250 (26" BBL), with a Nikon Monarch 6.5-20x44 scope in Ruger rings that consistantly shoots sub-MOA with an average of .75 MOA roughly with Winchester White Box 45gr JHP. I've also chrony'd this load and it smokes 'em through the screens at a mean of 4025fps (standard deviation of 39fps, extreme spread 123) with the chrony 15ft from the muzzle.
I also tested the Winchester Super-X 55gr JSP, which through the same chrony (15ft from muzzle) clocked a mean of 3681fps (St. Dev. 36fps, Ex. Spread 125fps). The accuracy of this load was <.75 MOA comsistant, with two of the 4 5-shot groups <.5 MOA.
But the 45gr JHP's are cheaper so I shoot those mostly. I'm probably going to try some different brands of Factory ammo when the weather gets warmer, but I've been shooting Winchester thusfar just for the brass. Maybe someday when I get a reloading setup I will reload them.
