Default Rabbit

Well I've just shot my first rabbit with a recurve. However when cleaning it I found this:

I discarded the whole rabbit, Can anyone tell me what it is and what causes it?

thank you

That rabbit had tulameria (spelling?). You COULD eat the rabbit if you were in like a survival situation, as long as it's cooked thoroughly. Otherwise it's not worth the "risk". It is transferable to humans so you were smart to discard it. Usually you won't find a rabbit with tulameria in the colder months. They say after the first few good frosts, it's officially rabbit season.

That's what I always was told, Squirrel's and rabbit's after the first frost. Old timers must have known something.
