The effective range of the .17HMR is short enough for a lung/heart shot that making a head shot is just as easy. Coyotes brain-boxes are smaller than you'd think, but a solid hit on the noggin and it's lights out. I rarely bother with vitals (heart and lung) shots with the .17, and opt for headshots whenever possible.
