scope or open sights

open sights will work just fine in that situation. Coon calling doesn't involve any distance past 50 yards, and that would be on the far side. The most common way to call coon during day time, is to find the den tree and set up not far away and call them right out of the tree, and usually you're with-in eye sight of the tree to start with. SO, IMO, a scope isn't needed.

Most den trees, also remember a raccoon will den in the ground as well, BUT in our area the den trees are usually the largest trees, and obviosuly will have a hole and enough hollow tree for the coons to den in it. Finding those trees can take time, but once you find them, it's then simple as getting close to that tree and turn on conn fight on an Ecaller, and it doesn't take long for'em to come out. Action can be quick!
Another favorite den spot is under old structures/farm buildings. Abandoned farmsteds are usually good for some raccoons.
