Woodchuck Hunting
Anyone hunt woodchucks? Lets see some pics. I went with my wifes uncle in PA couple weeks ago while we were there, was pretty fun. We used a 30-30 the first night then used a 30.06 and the 30-30 the second night.
I missed alot the first night as I dont shoot much, Then the second night I used the 30.06 with a 10x44 scope that was alot clearer and got 2 in a row, one being a head shot at about 50-60 yards. He also popped a skunk that came out the first night.
Anyone that does hunt them, do you eat them or just let them lay? Ive heard they can be eaten, and am always willing to try eating something different.

young groundhogs are very good.you can quarter them, batter them up and fry them.If you chose to eat an older one you may want to pressure cook it until it gets soft enough to debone and bar-b-que it.They are very edible.

hey xcab02 you might want to lighten up on the rifle a little if you have a smaller caliber it would make shotting them more enjoyable.but if all you got is a big gun then that will work.get you a set of sand bags and you can shoot off of them and reach out there a lot farther and be able to hit them.I like to hunt them,to pass time until the next hunting season.

We were shooting from my wife's uncle's deer box blind out to an open field. Those are the guns he chose (I prefer bows), although after telling him that I wanted to get either a 22lr or 17hmr for varmits and squirrels, he emailed my wife and told her he went out and bought a 17hmr and got one at 165yards and loved the gun. So Ill probablybe buying a 17hmr to mess around with once we move to Ohio in a couple months.
