RE: coyote pups.
Well it varys a little bit pups in the south are born a little earlter than in the north. In Illinois were I"m at I think it"s about the mid to late april. The pups wont even leave the den area for over a month, unless the bitch moves them. The adult dogs are very protective of the denning area when the pups are small, may not resond real well to distress calls, but domestic dogs, and other coyotes will really get them worked up. Thats I think the best way to get them close.
The pups really won"t come to a call for a while, but can be pretty stupid their first year. They will respond to howls moreso than an adult, much to the bitches disliking, it"s a real good way to locate a den in the mid-summer. The hides are not any good in the summer, but if you just want them gone, as many farmers do, it" a good time to get"em. I took a adult female last july on a farm in Il., when she went down 2 pups come out of noware, walked right up to her looking like it was a game. I only got the one, I think the other one got hit by a car the next week.
