22-250 fur friendly bullets
Curious as to what you guys shooting 22-250'sare shooting for bullets( that are easy onthe hide )? I was just looking at the site "The Coyote Doctors" and see they all shoot 55 gr V-Max's. I have loaded and shot some 40 gr V-Max'sand was impressed with them at the range, alittle light for any wind though, so thought I see if any one out thereshoots the 55 gr V-Max's. I have been shooting 55 gr BT's which I have had good success with but would like to see if i could do any better. Thanks

I did not like the VMAX through my gun, ballistic tips were too inconsistant on fur damage and kill power. I use a 45 grain hollowpoint now and love it- softpoints are consistant but less lethal in my experience.

I have never had a problem with Hornady V-Max's causing fur damage from my .223. The bullets did not exit, so there was only an entrance hole roughly the diameter of the bullet. Started with the 40 grainers, moved up to 50 grainers, and now working up loads for the 55 grainers. The 50 and 55 grainers are a little more forgiving on shot placement. I have taken some body shots that were a little further back than I prefer, but that was all I could get a shot at, and the coyotes still died in place or circled a couple of times and then fell over dead.
I never could get the Barnes Triple Shocks to group well in my gun. At least to what I concidered acceptable. I did harvest two coyotes with them, and both coyotes had exit wounds that would require some stitching. These bullets are reallybetter suitedfor deer and hogs.

The triple shocks are more of a heavier game animal bullet, therefore they will leave an exit 99.99999% of the time.
My buddy with his 220 Swift is using Moly Coated 40gr Vmaxs that are being pushed well beyone 22-250 level and he doesn't blow any of 'em up.
When I used my bolt action 223 for 'yotes I used 50gr Vmaxs with great success, right now I am shooting 55gr SPs out of my AR15 and they are doing just fine.
