Heck, every year we will spot at least a few coyotes before even calling. It's a lot of fun to set up on one when you can already see him 1/2 mile away and get to watch his every reaction to the sounds we make!
That kind of thingI'd love to seearound here, but thelayout of the landmakes it almost impossible. Every once in a while it happens, sure, But I do ALOT more playing the terrain and getting the close up shot.

Don't get to see many of 'em in the great wide open

im gonna shoot probably out to 300- 400 yards on farmland and will save the fur. but i also want the gun not to destroy the fur at closer ranges. i dont like savage AT ALL. the accutrigger wobbles from side to side. i dont like it. price range is about out to $500

I live in WV, we are just starting to get more coyotes around here. I shot 8 last year. I am going to post with some questions about a long distance caller. I just ordered an inexpensive rifle that I believe will be a great coyote rifle. I bought a left handed thumbhole Thompson Center Encore. I have ordered a 6.5 X 284 custom barrel. I hope to be shooting a Berger 107 grain VLD bullet. I will also try the Lapua Scenar 107. I should be able to get abot 3500-3600 fps. I believe this setup would fit the bill that the author was looking for. I think the VLD's should have minimal pelt damage. And I guarantee this rig will reach out and get them, without being very heavy. I ordered a tapered barrel. I will be shooting from a fixed position, because I am handicapped. However I am sure this will work. I also have a RR Varmint in 223, but as stated it is not cheap, and in my opinion not effective past 300 yards. Tom.

Remington 700 ADL or SPS in 308, use Federal 168 match ammo. This will reach out to 600 yards if you can practice, the 168 match ammo will not expand, thus fur dammage is minimized. Put a tasco varmint scope on top and be done. Later vou can buy an aftermarket stock if you want.

.223 is a very cheap bullet. you can get umm in that wolf ammo in a box of 1000 for less than $100
Wolf ammo isnt very good though. I used it the other day any my groups were all over the place. I went to 52 gr. ultramax hollow points and my groups were very small. They were all touching. I didnt check the moa but its good. By the way i have a Savage 10FP .223 Tactical.
