all you really need to do is salt it down really good. I have one that was salted and it still looks nice after 12 or 13 years.
so you didn't remove the bone/muscle tissue?

Stick the end with meat insalt and let sit for a week and it will harden and the salt takes the blood out... atleast thats what i do

depends on how long you want it to last. 20 years without possibly rotting or stinking? then you have to remove the meat and bone of the tail. do this with pliers and a tail stripper then split the tail down one side and salt. this will last FOREVER. if its already been a few days then its prob too late so i would salt the end with meat and just keep it for a few years until it rots or stinks.
