Whats a good way to train a squirrel dog ?

I got my 2 boys a little fiest puppy.
He is about 12 weeks old.
We kept him on a leash.
We took him in the yard and tied a squirrel skin on,
The end of fishing line and let him chase it around in the yard.
Then hold him and drag it about 15 to 20 feet.
And let him go to the skin.
We did this for about 30 minutes or so.

Is this a good way to train a squirrel dog?
And is 12 weeks to young ?

let him taste the squirell tail then drag it on the ground and put on stump or short tree limb and let him track it thats what i do works ok
