Default heavy bullets and h4350 in 708.

Shot and destroyed my crony at the range yesterday[:@] (damn sabots) before I could test the velocity of my new 7-08 load. Im using 154gr hornadys over 48gr H4350. Does anyone use this powder in the 708 w/ heavy bullets? The estimated velocity in my book is around 2740. Im guessing Im getting around 2600-2650 in my 22'' barrel & accuracy was good.

I am only getting 2750fps with 48gr of IMR4350 and 140gr gameking.[] Thats out of a 24" barrel.

Are you sure its IMR? Are you loading hot?My book says max for IMR4350 is 46gr. Im using H4350. I noticed some powders dont work well w/ heavier bullets though. anyone use h4350 w/ heavier(150-175) 284 bullets?

I have never used anything other than IMR4350. IMO, you can't load too hot with 7mm08 and IMR4350 with bullets 140gr or heavier. The limiting factor is capacity, not pressure. I have to use a long drop tube to get 48gr in. And still hear powder crunching when seating a bullet. In fact, my hunting load is 47gr due too I don't like that much of a compressed load. I found it can cause inconsistent bullet seating.

Look at the pressure data from hodgdon webpage. Even with a 139gr hornady and 48gr compressed, pressure still well below 50K CUP at 45,200 CUP.

It will be tough to get even 47gr of IMR4350 in with 154gr bullet.
