What Bullet for African Game
Im gonna go to africa next summer and i need help deciding what bullet toreload in my 25-06. Impala would probably be the biggest animal on the list for the 25-06 right?
I've been reloading barnes tsx 100gr for deer, hog, ect. Should i move up to a 110gr tsx, a 120 Nosler Partition, or just keep reloading the 100gr?

I'm assuming you're just going on a plains game hunt?
Part of me says stay with what works, part of me says its africa, bigger is better.
Maybe I'm wrong, but I would think dangerous animals exist throughout africa....and with that being said I wouldn't want to rely on the PH as my back up. I don't think I'd want less than a .30-06 there.
I'd speak to them and see what their opinion is.
Btw, my cousin when he went, brought a few rifles etc..., all he used was his .375H&H on everything, from plains game to his cape buffalo.

Yeah i would be bringing a .375 h&h, 30-06, and a 25-06. And i wouldnt want to take a buffalo with a 25-06 so thats reserved for impala, warthog, baboon, duiker, jackal, ect.

Talk with your PH if you can. They will guide you as to what will work. Make sure they are OK with your choice of caliber. Some recommend bringing larger calibers for the hunt. What ever caliber / bullet combo you settle on, make sure you shoot it well from various positions.
I would go with 110 gr TSX in the 25-06.
Good Luck!

Are you more comfy with your .30-06 or .25-06? at long ranges? if you prefer the 30-06 I think I'd just leave the .25 at home.
I think going from 100gr tsx to 110gr tsx is of little benefit, sure its 10% but is it worth the extra hassle of learning a new reload etc...?
I'd look to something in the 115-120gr range if you want more bang.
Personally I've used Noslers parts and they worked, but wasn't impressed by what was left, think I'd try and hopefuly like the tsx or aframes or somethign else....

I love my 25-06 loaded with 100 grain Sierra Game Kings. Never ever has a Whitetail walked away after the gun went bang. An Imapala is about the same size and I wouldn't hesitate to take it on a hunt for Plains game in Africa. Take the gun and the load you are comfortable with it will serve you much better than anything else. Confidence in your equipment is 75% of the battle. If you take a big hammer that you are not comfortable with and miss you'll always wonder what would have happend if you would have the gun you are custom to shooting. Good luck on your hunt!

First off, no such thing as a 110 TSX so I assume you mean 115. Secondly the 100TSX will penetrate better than any 25cal lead-core bullet on the market.....period. Stick with the 100TSX's and go kill chit!

if your heading to africa dont skimp out on a trip of a lifetime. talk to your PH. if your going for plains game use premium bullets like the nosler partions or barnes. despite what most think africa is not all about big dangerous critters everywhere. AFRICA is big.its kinda like if you live in new jersey you wouldnt expect to see a grizzly bear. i would use the 30-06 and i believe bigger is better on most plains game. also check the accurate reloaders web site. lots of africa info there!
