35 Whelen Autoloader
I've always wanted a Remington 7400 in 35 Whelen and it hasn't been made in 15-20 years, so when Remington changed the name of the 7400 to the 750 Woodmaster this year and chambered it in 35 Whelen I was getting one. Well I have found out NOBODY loads for it except Remington, Nosler custom. I'm a firm hater of remington ammo and 47.00 a box for Nosler custom (no way). Now I'm back to reloading another round, but for a semi auto. I'm not real happy about having to reload for this one but it will by far make me the happiest. Anybody reload for the 7400 and have great luck? Second got recipies for the 35 Whelen?

A friend of mine reloads for his remington 7400matte/syntheticin .270 win. He doesnt have any problems and it shoots 1 1/2 inch groups and sometimes lessat 100 yards. Just have to use small base dies. You ever notice the 750 looks like the older model 4 that was the cadillac to the 7400. Remington actually had a 4 and 6. The 6 was the pump. I had one and regret trading it. They had the cartridge head they were chambered in embedded in front of the magazine hole just behind the forearm. They were nice rifles. I guess remington dug it out of their closets and redesigned it some.

I found one forum where a guy said he used rcbs regular dies and they worked. One guy said he used small base dies because he had them but never answered to another gentlemen's question of which brand he had. I have looked but have found no dies for this round that are small base. I would try whatever you brand of choice is first or would call rcbs and see what they would recommend. They may be able to make a custom set at a premium, but if you are going to load alot they will pay for themselves. Good Luck!!!! Oh by the way I would get one of "The Complete Reloading Guides for the .35 Whelen" if it is made. I use these for all the calibers I load for so I dont have to buy all the seperate manuals. Midway has them. Here is the link.

I think you are going to find that "regular" dies will work fine as long as you keep the pressures reasonable. Also after several loadings the brass "springs back" more, and then you need SB dies to get it to chamber easily.

I think that the whelen being labeled as the most efficient cart. by one of the hunting mags, the intro of the 750 and New England Fire Arms building a riflechambered in 35 whelen, there mybe more Amo manufactures loading for the whelen. Last I knew Federal had a load for the whelen. I think it was 250 gr. Trophy Bonded Bear Claws, also Conley loads for the whelen. Check out http://35cal.com/

RE: 35 Whelen Autoloader
I started shooting a 750 in the 35 Whelen recently, no factory ammo, using my reloads, and so far about 100 rounds thru it with no fedding issues. I use a 15 year old set of RCBS dies. The gun groups around 1.5" with 225 gr Partitions, Sierra BT's, the 250 gr. Speer, and the 200 gr. Hornady. It does not seem finicky about powder choices, and I have shot groups with RL15, IMR4320, BL-C2, and 3031. It would be difficult to overload a Whelen case with any of these powders.
It is going moose hunting in September, and I think it will be using the 225 gr. Partition over 56 or 58 grains of RL15.
It is a real easy cartridge to get along with! With the price of ammo, it is easy to justify reloading gear.

A load that works well in my 750 is 57 grains of BL-C2 under a 225 gr Sierra or a 250 gr. Speer. My gun will handle 2 more grains of powder, but I am getting used to the gun,(the trigger as much as anything) and it has been pretty warm some days. Point of impact doesn't seem to change.
