neither if these rifles are much good on coyotes, yes they will kill them but not efficiently and not consistantly.as far as shutting down the report,a silencer is about the only way and the last time i checked they were ilegal to possess and use.

when you say "city" hunting... what ranges are you anticipating? If you are sniping them out in your residential alley at 50yds or less, I'd be tempted to go with a good, accurate bolt action 22lr, using the so-called "sniper" round that is subsonic, with a 60gr bullet. If you could get the accuracy, I imagine it would kill a coyote. It probably wouldn't drop it instantly, unless you got the brain or spine, but I imagine a shot thru the chest would dispatch it pretty quickly. I imagine the report wouldn't be any louder than a little firecracker...shouldn't shake up the neighbors.
If you are able to use a 22mag, I'd get a good 22 Hornet instead, and work up a good reload... maybe even with a cast bullet. If you want dramatic results, then use either the 35 or 40gr VMax bullet at about 2500-2600fps... it won't be any louder than the 22mag, but will have better terminal effect. And, you can reload it for about the same money as the 22mag stuff.... a whole lot cheaper if you cast your own....
One other option is a big bore... 308, 30-30,....whatever you have, but loaded down to subsonic levels. Again, it probably won't be dramatic, but it should kill a coyote.
